Ageless Beauties: Support Beauty Brains

What happened to the Beauty Brains? Will they ever recover? Read on to find out...

I received this note from Randy Schueller who, along with Perry Romanowski, is one of the big brains behind the Beauty Brains website and forum. We reviewed their latest book It's OK to Have Lead in Your Lipstick.

Double entendre in the headline is intentional. Since you're visiting this blog, you are a beauty brain yourself (or at least a wannabe). You're also an ageless beauty or ageless beauty soon-to-be.

We need beauty brains to navigate the marketplace for cosmetic and anti-aging products while avoiding scams, scare tactics and marketing hyperbole.

We need The Beauty Brains to help us do so.

What can you do to "Support The Beauty Brains"? Read Randy's note, join (or rejoin) THE BEAUTY BRAINS FORUM. If you haven't bought the book yet, you might do that as well.

This plea from Randy went out to the remnants of whatever contact lists have survived the catastrophic loss of their business.

It's OK to have Lead in Your LipstickHello Jean,

I'm sitting here trying to come to grips with the reality that nearly all the work that Perry and I have done on the Beauty Brains is gone. It's hard and personally very troubling.

What happened?

The company that hosts our website told us that the drive that stored all our data had a technical failure and all the data was lost. Even worse ... they were not saving a backup.

So, about a week ago, everything was just gone. This included all of the 2500+ Beauty Brains articles, the podcasts, the comments, and the forum discussions. The Beauty Brains website was dead.

The Beauty Brains reborn

After the initial shock, Perry did some searching and found that we could recover some of our content using Google's cache and the Wayback Machine. It's a lot of work but at least we've been able to bring some of our highest traffic content back to life. Unfortunately, things like videos, pictures, and audio files can't be recovered that way.

Sadly, the Beauty Brains Forum is not recoverable either. We had over 8,000 users signed up with thousands of discussions about beauty products. For all that content the only thing to do is start over from scratch.

What can you do to help?

We're already hard at work resurrecting what we can but Perry and I could really use your help with the Forum. If you would like to help, the number one thing you can do is to re-join the forum and ask a question, leave a comment about your favorite product, suggest a new category, or just give us a few words of encouragement. ANYTHING would help.

To rejoin the forum just click the link below.

Thank you for your support and dedication to the Beauty Brains over the years. Perry and I truly appreciate all the great comments and participation of everyone. We look forward to continuing to work with you in the future.

Editor in Chief, the Beauty Brains
