How Garcinia Cambogia Extract Works in Humans
Drs. Oz and Chen demonstrated how Garcinia Cambogia Extract or GCE changes body composition by blocking the way the liver otherwise processes sugars and carbohydrates. Normally the liver fills fat cells first. Garcinia Cambogia blocks storage in fat cells forcing the liver to convert sugars and carbs into glycogen for energy.

With more stored glycogen for fuel, energy levels increase. This makes it easier to exercise and build muscle. That raises basal metabolism because a pound of muscle burns about three times the calories a pound of fat does.

There were other health benefits observed in the GCE studies as well: a drop in total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL of 10 - 30%; and an increase in HDL.
Finally Dr. Chen theorized that patients who are obese may experience improvement in insulin and leptin resistance. Insulin and leptin are hormones which help control appetite.
