What Research Shows
At the forefront of the research into Garcinia Cambogia is Dr. Harry Preuss, MD, a tenured professor at Georgetown Medical Center and certified nutritional specialist.
His most recent book, The Natural Fat-Loss Pharmacy, was published in 2007. It covers some of the concepts and components of the Garcinia Cambogia Extract supplement which Dr. Oz called the Holy Grail of weight loss, but not Garcinia Cambogia itself.
Dr. Preuss believes the ideal weight loss program is one where you retain your muscle or even build it and that Garcinia Cambogia makes that happen.
During the segment on Garcinia Cambogia, Dr. Oz conducted a live interview with Dr. Julie Chen, MD, who is board-certified in internal medicine and fellowship-trained board-certified in integrative medicine.
Dr. Chen recommends Garcinia Cambogia supplements to some of her patients and appeared delighted to share her experience and knowledge about the herbal supplement.
Interestingly, after her appearance on the Dr. Oz Show, Dr. Chen posted a warning on her Making Healthy Easy website: "Do not fall for scams. [Dr. Chen] DOES NOT endorse any brands of the show topic supplements."
Dr. Chen reported that research shows people lose about four pounds a month, most of which is fat, while taking Garcinia Cambogia. Patients who add a weight loss diet plus exercise to the regimen can expect to lose two to three times as much. That's eight to 12 pounds a month!
What's more exciting is that Garcinia Cambogia makes it easier for people to change bad eating habits and sedentary lifestyles. Exactly how that is possible will be explained in Part 3, How Garcinia Cambogia Extract Works in Humans, tomorrow.
