[Victoria's question and Part 1 of our answer about Anti-Aging Skin Care Lines appeared yesterday.]
Most Clarins products are also highly fragranced. The Multi-Level Serum, for example, lists fragrance as the 15th out of 44 ingredients! Scanning to the bottom of the list, I couldn’t help but wonder (despite the miniscule amounts) what in the world (hepatotoxic) Coumarin and (pain killer plus skin debriding enzyme) Papain are doing in a skin serum designed for everyday use.
With all the botanicals included in Clarins products, they tend to be high in antioxidants, which is certainly good for fighting the visible signs of skin aging.
Clarins does have a couple of high SPF sunscreens which are worth recommending:
• Sunscreen Wrinkle Control Cream High Protection SPF 30, for [dry] Sun-Sensitive Skin; and
• Sunscreen Wrinkle Control Eye High Protection SPF 30, 100% Mineral Filters [Titanium Dioxide] with no added fragrance
Sunscreen is the sine qua non of anti-aging skin care.
Clarins Multi-Active products don’t contain any cell communicating ingredients like:
• Collagen-stimulating peptides;
• Vitamin B derivatives (e.g. Niacinamide or Myristyl Nicotinate); or
• Vitamin A derivatives (e.g. Retinol or Pro-Retinol).
I recommend cell communicating ingredients for skin anti-aging once lines and skin tone problems start to show up.
You can read about my approach to anti-aging skincare in Step Up Your Skin Care. Stepping up your skin care is an easy-to-understand way to design your own skincare program as your skin changes with age and accumulated free radical damage (sun exposure, smoking).

What a cool concept. BTW, I added your page to my web site. Seattle Beauty and Fashion - Girlie Blog Seattle
Oh no I have just stocked up on a lot of multi-active products, 3 full size night creams and 2 day creams, also have the younger longer balm(I have been using the range for at least 2 years). Is there any way I can make some kind of affordable purchases just to add cell communicating ingredients to my skincare regimen while using the Clarins for the anti oxidents etc. I am 30 but will be 31 at the end of the month! quality without a high price tag would be great, would the other item I sometimes purchase Estée Lauder
Advanced Night Repair be useful for this? Thank you for your wisdom!
Thank you, Girlie ;-)
Hi Starry,
Which Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair product did you buy: Recovery Boosting Treatment or Synchronized Recovery Complex? Let me know and I'll take a look at the formula.
In the meantime, look at the Ageless Beauty Top Ten Affordable list. You'll find not 1 or 2, but 9 more affordable options (on a per ounce basis) which contain healthy doses of cell communicating ingredients.
The only exception is Atopalm MLE which is an excellent choice for those with sensitive skin, rosacea and eczema, as well as after laser resurfacing, microdermabrasion or any irritation/injury. It does not contain cell communicating ingredients for age reversal.
Thank you so much that is very kind, it is the Synchronized Recovery Complex that I use and it would be great to find out if it is worth buying as it is slightly expensive. As I am in Ireland I think the Olay products would be the easiest of the affordable ones for me to by, also bliss but I also have a stockpile of Bliss Fabulous Life Kits which probably aren't anti aging either! As I have the moisturizer end sorted out I was wondering would an Olay Pro x serum be best to get the use of cell communicating ingredients?
You're welcome, Starry. Watch for your review of Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex next week.
The products in the Affordable Top Ten list are in order of preference, with the best of the best at the top.
Since you're looking for an antiaging serum, #9 Olay Regnerist Micro-Sculpting Serum would be a good one to try.
However, I haven't formally reviewed the Pro-X Serum yet and just took a quick look at it. It contains a higher concentration of Niacinamide than the Regenerist Serum, as well as two cell communicating peptides compared to Regenerist's one.
The Pro-X Serum may just bump Regenerist off the Top Ten.
Wow brilliant! I am looking forward to the review. As for a serum the Pro X sounds good for the moment unless I can convince my boyfriend to buy me Strivectin™-HS Hydro-Thermal Deep Wrinkle Serum for my Birthday! Thank you so much I am learning a lot from reading your reviews and advice.
Hi Starry,
You'll find my Olay Pro-X Serum Review here.
It did, in fact, beat out the Olay Regenerist Serum and is now included in the Ageless Beauty Top Ten Affordable list.
Starry, here's the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex Review which I promised you.
