The original StriVectin lists two cosmeceutical peptides as ingredients: Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-3 and Palmitoyl Oligopeptide. But guess what? Those terms are synonymous, so you actually are getting only one wrinkle plumping peptide, albeit quite a high concentration of a very effective one.
PreVentin really does have two distinct cosmeceutical peptides: a high concentration of Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 (the first Botox-mimicking peptide) and a lesser amount (than StriVectin) of Palmitoyl Oligopeptide.
As for moisturizers, StriVectin comes out on top. Both products contain a very nice blend of emollients. StriVectin has the two most powerful Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMFs) available: Glucosamine HCL and Urea. PreVentin has good, but more run-of-the-mill, NMFs: Glycerin and Dimethicone.
StriVectin has a nice antioxidant cocktail: Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (a stable form of Vitamin C), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A) and Bearberry Extract. Bearberry Extract also acts to clarify the skin, as does the Licorice Extract found in StriVectin.
PreVentin falls short as far as antioxidants go: Ascorbic Acid (an unstable form of Vitamin C and therefore pro-oxidant as well as antioxidant), Tocopheryl Acetate, Retinyl Palmitate and Pyridoxine HCL (Vitamin B6).
Both products contain the same temporary skin tighteners. Neither contains any exfoliants or sun protection, though StriVectin does offer an SPF 30 version of its famous cream.
Jean’s Bottom Line: My personal choice is StriVectin when I can afford it; but I believe PreVentin is an acceptable substitute if supplemented with a night cream high in antioxidants.
