Here’s another interesting food list I came across recently. It’s The 10 Healthiest Foods You've Never Tried. Catchy. Clever. And too true – for most Americans.
Cari Nierenberg, of the ABCNews Medical Unit, asked five nutrition experts for their recommendations and they came up with ten foods not commonly eaten by many Americans.
Joanne Ikeda, a nutritionist emeritus at the University of California at Berkeley noted that “People tend to eat what they know how to prepare, and they may be reluctant to invest in a new food if they're not sure if it tastes good”.
Here’s the list they came up with:
1. Kiwi
2. Broccoli rabe
3. Brazil nuts
4. Edamame (fresh green soybeans)
5. Red lentils
6. Quinoa
7. Canned salmon [canned because it’s almost always the healthier wild-caught variety]
8. Prawns
9. Whole grain and multigrain pastas
10. Pomegranate
