Happy Holidays with High Density Foods for Healthy Eating and Weight Control

[Jean’s tips for happy holiday eating are continued from last Friday.]

2. I disagree with the advice to eat before the party so you don’t arrive ravenous. I think that’s an insult to the hosts who have worked so hard to entertain you. Bring your appetite, but before you start noshing, scope out the entire scene. Look for the foods you selected in tip 1 and stay with them for the most part. Do allow yourself just a taste of high calorie foods you crave, but savor each bite slowly.

3. Limit your alcohol intake. As you saw in the calorie density table, alcohol is one of the most calorie dense “foods” there is. Not only that, but it lowers inhibitions and self-control. It releases your “inner pig” so to speak.

4. If you are the host or hostess, you can help your guests, as well as yourself, to eat healthily by adding some Gourmet Touches that Aid in Weight Control.

5. If a sit down meal is part of the gathering, pay attention to plate size and how your food is portioned out. A healthy-size nine-inch plate for dinner should be comprised of 50% vegetables, 25% protein and 25% carbs. No fair piling your food to the sky though; you’d only be fooling yourself!

Enjoy the holidays. Eat hearty and healthy – with NO REGRETS in the New Year!
